The book "The Colour of Magic" by Terry Pratchett features the character Rincewind. He is a wizard, but he has no magical powers. Instead, he relies on his intelligence and his wits to accomplish his goals. He is initially thrown into a quest when he is asked to save the world.

Twoflower, the only other person in the world, has an equally great desire to save the world. Both are brought together in order for them to unite their efforts. However, when they are attempting to save the world, they find that it does not fall into their hands quite as easily as they had anticipated.

It is not that they do not succeed in saving the world, but rather that both their efforts are in vain. They do not reach their goal because there are many factors in play that make it too difficult for them to succeed. For example, it requires a great deal of effort on both sides of the problem and all parties involved must put forth a considerable amount of effort before they can get anywhere.

If one party does not put forth that effort or if one side only puts forth half of what they promised then there will be no solution and no way for both sides to prevail and everyone loses out on something valuable. One thing we learn from this quote is that we should never give up on our dreams or goals even when we feel like we cannot succeed and we will eventually fail.
